SSDIS01011 - Basic Welding Skills skill Set
This course equips students with skills in working safely and effectively in the fabrication, welding and engineering industry, using hand tools, manual handling and performing routine gas tungsten arc welding and gas metal arc welding. This skill set will enhance the entry-level employment prospects for apprenticeships, traineeships or general employment in an engineering-related workplace.
Course Information
- Duration: 3 weeks
- Days: Monday – Thursday
- Times: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- Dates: 03.11.2025 - 20.11.2025
- Location: ATEC Lonsdale Skill Centre, 5 Refinery Road, Lonsdale SA 5160
Entry Requirements
Participants MUST:
- Have the physical ability to perform practical fabrication skills.
- Have the ability to read, write and understand basic English and carry out basic mathematical calculations
- Be able to commit to the course duration and time commitment.
- Students will be required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy (LLN) Quiz prior to attending the training course
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible, an individual must at the time the course commences:
- Identify as a First Nations person
- Live or work in South Australia
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent Australian resident, or an eligible visa holder
- Be aged 16 years or over and not enrolled at school.

- Concession Fee: $774.40
Learner Requirements
- Provision of Australian legal photo requirements for enrolment purposes.
- All students must provide their Unique Student Identifier (USI). To apply for a USI, click the link below.
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
To be supplied by the participant:
- Safety Boots (steel cap)
- Safety glasses
- Appropriate workshop attire (non-flammable). i.e. work trousers and a Long-sleeved work shirt (for WHS reasons please do not wear excessively loose clothing)
- Welding gloves and welding helmet
Assessment
There are theory and practical training, and assessment components to this course. Skills will be trained and assessed at ATEC Lonsdale

Outcome
Upon successful completion of all requirements of this course, learners will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency that have been successfully achieved.
