Become an Apprentice or Trainee

ATEC Group Training employs apprentices and hosts them out to one or more Host Employers throughout the duration of the apprenticeship. This gives you the opportunity to develop your trade skills by working in different environments and ensuring continuous employment.

What trades and vocations are available?

Electrical Apprenticeships

Kickstart your career as an electrician with an  Electrical Apprenticeship. This four-year training contract is all handled by us at ATEC as a part of our sign-up process. It will equip you with essential skills in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems across residential, commercial, and industrial settings. 

As part of your apprenticeship, you must complete both on-the-job training placements with ATEC Group Training and off-the-job training through ATEC RTO (Registered Training Organisation). Once completed, you will have attained the UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician and will be qualified for:

  • Wire electrical systems and equipment
  • Find and repair faults in electrical equipment and systems
  • Connect and test electrical systems
  • Test and inspect electrical systems

Carpentry Apprenticeships

Build a solid foundation for your future with a Carpentry Apprenticeship. While working towards the CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry, you’ll gain hands-on skills in constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made from timber and other materials. When signing up for your apprenticeship, we handle the four-year training contract. 

You must complete both on-the-job training with qualified tradespersons through a Group Training Organisation (GTO) and off-the-job training with trainers through the ATEC RTO (Registered Training Organisation). This four-year apprenticeship will prepare you for residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects and upon completing your nationally recognised qualification, you will be skilled for:

  • Measuring, cutting, and assembling timber and steel framework
  • Constructing walls, floors, roofs, and other structural elements
  • Installing doors, windows, stairs, and cabinetry
  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings and plans
  • Using hand and power tools safely and efficiently
  • Applying site safety practices and adhering to WHS regulations

Plumbing Apprenticeships

Become a licensed plumber by completing one of our Plumbing Apprenticeships. ATEC manages the four-year training contract as part of the sign-up process and combines hands-on experience with technical knowledge to prepare you for various plumbing jobs in domestic, commercial, and industrial settings. 

You must complete on-the-job training through ATEC Group Training and off-the-job training through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to achieve CPC32420 Certificate III in Plumbing qualification, learning to work with water, drainage, gas, and roofing systems while developing strong problem-solving skills. Upon completion, you will be qualified for:

  • Sanitary and drainage pipe installations
  • Gas, pipework and appliance installations
  • Hot and cold water services
  • Water recycling technologies

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Apprenticeships

Start your career in climate control with an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Apprenticeship, where you'll learn to install, service, and repair cooling and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. As part of the sign-up process, ATEC takes care of the four-year training contract. 

You will need to complete on-the-job training through ATEC Group Training alongside off-the-job training through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Upon completing your apprenticeship, you will receive UEE32225 Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, qualifying you to:

  • Install refrigeration equipment
  • Decommission and commission refrigeration systems
  • Install air conditioning systems
  • Install and repair electrical controls and equipment

Data and Voice Communications Apprenticeships

Develop skills in one of Australia’s fastest-growing industries with a  Data and Voice Communications Apprenticeship. ATEC administers this four-year training contract and prepares you to install and maintain communication systems for data networks, telecommunication lines, and related infrastructure across various sectors while gaining valuable industry experience through on-the-job training with ATEC Group Training and receiving off-the-job education from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). 

Upon completion, you will earn UEE30425 Certificate III in Data and Voice Communications and will be qualified to:

  • Lay and connect cables for telecommunication services
  • Find faults in simple dc circuits
  • Use electric circuits safely
  • Install and repair electrical controls and equipment
  • Fix and secure equipment, PC servicing and computer networks fundamentals

Metal Fabrication Apprenticeships

Get hands-on with metalwork and structural fabrication through our  Engineering Apprenticeship in Fabrication trade. Your four-year training contract is drawn up by us as part of the sign-up process, and during your apprenticeship, you will gain practical experience manufacturing and assembling metal components for structures, machinery, and other engineering applications. 

You must successfully complete both on-the-job training with ATEC Group Training and off-the-job training through ATEC RTO (Registered Training Organisation). On completion, you will achieve MEM31922 Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade and will be qualified to:

  • Follow blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements
  • Select, clean, and prepare metal stock
  • Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using necessary tools and machines
  • Join metal sections using various welding techniques, equipment, and machinery

Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeships

Start your journey in the world of mechanical trades with a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship. This four-year training contract will help you develop a strong understanding of fitting, machining, assembly, and repair of mechanical components for industrial machinery and equipment. The contract is handled by ATEC as a part of the sign-up process. 

To complete the course, you need to complete both on-the-job training with ATEC Group Training and off-the-job training through ATEC RTO (Registered Training Organisation). Upon which, you will achieve MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade and will be qualified to:

  • Develop, design, test and inspect mechanical devices systems
  • Control and automation of manufacturing systems
  • Assess project requirements

Business Traineeships (Administration)

To kickstart your career in administration, it’s great to complete a Traineeship in Business. This will allow you to do on job and off job training. 

The training contract will span between 12-18 months, and you will attend an RTO (Registered Training Organisation) to complete BSB30120 Certificate III in Business. This is all handled by us at ATEC as a part of our sign-up process. On completion, you will be qualified to:

  • Demonstrate great customer service
  • Process and maintain workplace information
  • Demonstrate efficient data entry
  • Prepare documentation and invoicing
  • Maintain schedules

What we look for in an applicant

  • Completion of either Year 11 or 12; or pre-vocational studies
  • Genuine interest in a particular trade
  • Knowledge of the desired trade or industry
  • Own transport and licence is desirable

Training

ATEC offer a range of training services for students. As well as training apprentices in Certificate III level qualifications, we also offer options such as Pre-Employment Programs and short courses.
 

Pre-Employment Programs

ATEC often offers free training for students, school leavers and eligible Jobseekers. These pre-employment programs cover a range of vocations ranging from welding & fabrication, electrical, and construction.

These programs offer a Certificate II Qualification as well as training in life skills, WHS and industry expectations.
