Carpentry Apprenticeships with ATEC

A carpentry apprenticeship is the first step toward gaining the skills, knowledge, and qualifications needed to become a professional carpenter. As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), ATEC delivers high-quality academic training to apprentices pursuing their Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30220) as part of their carpentry apprenticeship in Adelaide.
ATEC’s RTO works closely with its Group Training Organisation (GTO) division to provide a seamless pathway into the trade. While ATEC’s RTO focuses on delivering high-quality training, the GTO division manages the employment side of the apprenticeship. This includes recruiting apprentices, arranging placements with host employers, and ensuring that each apprentice gains hands-on experience in a supportive work environment. ATEC also works with a wide range of external GTO service providers that offer carpentry apprenticeship hire services.

Once you have decided that a career in carpentry is for you, the following steps will help start you on your carpentry apprenticeship pathway:
- Contact ATEC’s Group Training Organisation (GTO): Group Training Organisations (GTOs) specialise in helping aspiring apprentices find suitable placements with reputable employers and assess your skills, interests, and career goals to match you with the right opportunity. - Sign a Training Contract: Once you’ve locked in an employer and contacted ATEC’s GTO, the next step is to formalise your apprenticeship through a training contract. Once you have started work, an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider (ACAP) will help you and your employer complete a Training Contract. ATEC’s GTO will also assist you and your employer in developing a Training Plan.
- Start your Apprenticeship: Once the paperwork is out of the way, ATEC’s GTO will provide you with basic PPE (Personal protective equipment) including boots, high vis work shirts and pants, an induction and assign a Field Officer to mentor you throughout your apprenticeship. Carpentry apprentices spend most of their time working on construction sites. They assist with various tasks such as measuring, cutting, and assembling materials. This practical experience is invaluable for learning the trade.
- Classroom Instruction: In addition to hands-on training, apprentices must complete structured classroom instruction to develop the theoretical knowledge required for a successful carpentry career. ATEC’s RTO delivers expert specialised training that complements apprentices’ on-site experience. Through ATEC’s expert-led courses, apprentices gain a deeper understanding of essential topics, from workplace safety regulations to advanced carpentry techniques. ATEC provides a supportive learning environment where apprentices can refine skills, ask questions, and build the technical knowledge needed to excel in the trade.
- Gain On-the-Job Experience: Work alongside skilled tradespeople through your host employer to apply your knowledge gained through ATEC’s RTO, in real-world settings. These mentors provide guidance, answer questions, and ensure that apprentices are developing their skills correctly.
- Complete Your Apprenticeship: After fulfilling the academic and practical requirements, achieve your nationally recognised qualification - CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry.
