SSDIS01008 - Introduction to Construction Skill Set
This skill set will give you an introduction to working in construction, teaching you safety and accuracy in planning for, setting up and beginning a construction project. You will learn to use tools and equipment safely and the rules and procedures for safe work on site, plus you will work on a construction project, ready to add to your portfolio.
This course is ideal as a start to a building and construction pathway, building the basic safety skills for wet trades, plumbing, carpentry and joinery.

- Duration: 2 weeks
- Days: Monday – Friday
- Times: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- Dates: 29.09.2025 - 10.10.2025
- Delivery Location: ATEC Lonsdale Skill Centre, 5 Refinery Road, Lonsdale SA 5160
Entry Requirements:
Participants MUST:
- Have the physical ability to undertake construction-related tasks.
- Have the ability to read, write and understand basic English and carry out basic mathematical calculations
- Be able to commit to the course duration and time commitment.
- Students will be required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy (LLN) Quiz prior to attending the training course
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible, an individual must at the time the course commences:
- Identify as a First Nations person
- Live or work in South Australia
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent Australian resident, or an eligible visa holder
- Be aged 16 years or over and not enrolled at school.
Fees:
- Fee Free for those who meet the eligibility criteria. To learn if you are eligible for this course, please refer to the eligibility criteria above.
- Fee: $294.50
- Concession Fee: $95
Learner Requirements
- Provide your Unique Student Identifier (USI). Apply for an USI
- Provision of Australian legal photo identification for enrolment purposes
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment):
To be supplied by the participant:
- Safety boots (steel cap)
- Safety glasses
- Work pants (work shorts accepted)
- Long-sleeved shirt (for WHS reasons, please don’t wear excessively loose clothing)
- High visibility vest (high visibility shirt/jumper is acceptable. Please ensure no drawstring on the jumper for WHS reasons.)
- Sun protection is required.
Assessment:
There are theory and practical training, and assessment components to this course. Skills will be trained and assessed at ATEC Lonsdale

Outcome:
Upon successful completion of all requirements of this course, learners will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency that have been successfully achieved.
