Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade

Qualification status: superseded by MEM31925

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for employment as a Fabrication Engineering Tradesperson within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries.

Duration

This program is offered as a 48 Month (4-year) Australian Apprenticeship Training Contract.

Note: usually completed in approx. 3.5 years

Assessment

There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course. Skills will be trained and assessed through a blend of off-the-job (trade school), self paced study and on-the-job training.

Entry Requirements

Participants MUST:

  • Be signed into an approved Training Contract with an employer through an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network
  • Be 16 years or older for a standard apprenticeship training contract; or
  • 15 years or older for a school based apprenticeship training contract
  • Be an Australian/New Zealand Citizen or hold an eligible VISA.
  • Have the ability to read, write and understand basic English and carry out basic mathematical calculations.
  • Have the physical ability to perform practical fabrication skills.

Fees

Career Start Apprenticeship/Traineeship Pathway

Full Fee (Co-Contribution) 

Fees are charged at $1.60 per nominal hour for each unit of competency/module. 

(Typical training plan is approx.1000 Hours – Full Fee: $1600)

  • Co-contribution fees are set by the Department.
  • Co-contribution fees must be calculated at the commencement of each unit or module.
  • The Co-contribution fee applies consistently across all Skills Assure Suppliers delivering apprenticeships and traineeships.

Partial Fee Exemption (Co-Contribution) 

40 per cent of the fees are charged where the participant falls into one or more of the following exemption categories: 

  • The participant was or will be under 17 years of age at the end of February in the year in which the SAS provides training and is not at school and has not completed year 12.
  • The participant holds a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card issued under Commonwealth law, or is the partner or a dependant of a person who holds such a card and is named on the card.
  • Holds an official form issued under Commonwealth law confirming that the individual, their partner or the person of whom they are a dependant, is entitled to concessions under a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card.
  • The participant identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. 

Full Fee Exemption (Co-Contribution) 

No fees are charged where the participant falls into one or more of the following categories: 

  • A credit transfer applies to a unit of competency/module.
  • Transitional gap training applies when transitioning an apprentice/trainee from a superseded qualification or unit of competency where a previously completed unit of competency is identified as similar but not equivalent.
  • The participant is a school-based apprentice or trainee.
  • The participant is under 25 years of age at the commencement of their apprenticeship/traineeship.

Learner Requirements

  • Provide your Unique Student Identifier (USI). Click here to apply for a USI.
  • Provision of Australian legal photo identification for enrolment purposes
  • Applicants will be required to undertake a Literacy and Numeracy Assessment at a level required to successfully complete the qualification. Potential clients who are identified as not meeting course requirements will be assisted with referral to appropriate support services.

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

To be supplied by participant:

  • Safety Boots (steel cap)
  • Safety glasses (non-tinted)
  • Long pants
  • Long-sleeved shirt (for WHS reasons please do not wear excessively loose clothing)
  • High visibility vest (high visibility shirt/jumper is acceptable)
  • Appropriate welding gloves and welding helmet

Outcome

On successful completion of all requirements of this course, learners will be issued with:

  1. A Record of Results; and a
  2. Certificate for the MEM31922 Certificate III Engineering – Fabrication Trade.
    Note: Students who do not complete all the requirements of this course will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency that have been successfully achieved.
