Thursday Night Basic Machining Course

Build Your Confidence in Manual Metal Lathes and Milling Machines

Designed for those currently working in a trade or workshop environment, ATEC's Thursday Night Basic Machining course provides practical, hands-on experience with manual machining in a supportive workshop setting. Based on the nationally recognised unit MEM07005 – Perform General Machining, this non-accredited short course focuses on developing essential machining skills that can be applied in the workplace.

Over four Thursday evenings, you'll:

Gain practical experience using manual lathes and milling machines.
Learn safe machining practices and correct machine operation.
Develop essential machining techniques through hands-on activities.

Participants will be introduced to both lathes and milling machines before having the opportunity to spend additional time developing the skills most relevant to their work or interests. If you're looking to refresh your skills or build greater confidence in manual machining, this course provides practical experience that can be applied immediately in the workplace.

Entry Requirements

Participants MUST:

Be at least 18 years old
Have the ability to read, write and understand basic English and carry out basic mathematical calculations.
Have the physical ability to perform practical machining skills.
Current trade or workshop experience

Fees

$595.00 AUD (Inc GST)

Courses must be paid for on booking unless alternative arrangements have been made. Training will not be confirmed until payment has been received.

Content

Introduction to safety
Prepare and set up equipment for welding
Perform routine welding using GMAW
Welding techniques
Welding joints
Practical project – optional

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

To be supplied by participant:

Safety Boots (steel cap)
Safety glasses
Appropriate workshop attire (non-flammable) i.e. work trousers and a long-sleeved work shirt (for WHS reasons please do not wear excessively loose clothing)
Appropriate welding gloves and a welding helmet
