Aberfoyle Park Student Wins Gold in National Carpentry Competition
A promising future in construction is already taking shape for Aberfoyle Park High School student Angus Blanksby, who has claimed first place in the VETiS Carpentry category at the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Championships, held in Brisbane.
Angus, a Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) student with ATEC, stood out among the nation’s best young tradespeople, impressing judges with his technical precision, problem-solving ability, and hands-on expertise.
His success at the national level followed a win at the South Australian Regionals, marking a steady climb through the WorldSkills competition ranks and demonstrating the strong foundation built through his VET studies.

“Angus is a shining example of what can be achieved through passion, perseverance, and quality training,” said Nick, ATEC’s VET in School Supervisor. “The VET pathway gives students like Angus the opportunity to gain practical experience and industry knowledge while still at school. It fosters vital skills like teamwork, communication, and resilience—skills that are essential in the construction industry and beyond.”
Balancing schoolwork, on-site training, and competition preparation, Angus has consistently shown the drive and focus needed to excel—not just as a student, but as a future industry leader.
Competitions like WorldSkills offer more than just medals—they provide a platform for young tradespeople to showcase their skills and gain national recognition. Angus’s achievement is also a reflection of the strength of ATEC’s training programs and the importance of investing in vocational pathways.
“Wins like this highlight the strength of our training and the future of our industry,” Nick added.
ATEC congratulates Angus on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to supporting his continued success in the trades.
Well done, Angus—we’re incredibly proud of your hard work and can’t wait to see what comes next!
