Makeover for Christie Downs Housing Trust Property By Reynella East students

On 19 November, ATEC proudly celebrated the successful completion of the 2024 Southern House Renovation Program, a collaborative project delivered in partnership with CITB South Australia, the SA Housing Trust (SAHT), Reynella East College, and ATEC. The handover event marked the culmination of a year of hard work, determination, and hands-on learning for the participating D2C students.

Throughout the year, students dedicated themselves to transforming a Christie Downs property supplied by the SA Housing Trust. What began as a tired, dated house has been fully revitalised through the students’ efforts, from internal repairs and cosmetic upgrades to more substantial renovation works. The end result is a welcoming, refreshed home that is now ready to be tenanted by a South Australian family in need.

The project represents more than just a renovation. It’s a powerful example of how industry partnerships and practical learning opportunities can change lives. Students not only developed real construction skills on-site but also gained confidence, teamwork experience, and a deep sense of pride in contributing to their community. Many participants have now expressed interest in pursuing a trade career, inspired by the real-world exposure and mentorship they received throughout the project.

CITB SA SAHT, Reynella East College, and ATEC worked closely to ensure students were supported at every stage, creating a safe and structured environment for them to learn while making a measurable impact. This collaboration stands as a testament to what can be achieved when education and industry come together.
