Posted on April 10, 2026
Congratulations!
At the recent ATEC Training Awards & Graduation Ceremony, ATEC was proud to recognise Derek Anderson as the recipient of the CBUS ATEC Trainer of the Year Award.
This award stands apart from others on the night, with ATEC’s leadership team nominating candidates who best embody the organisation’s core values of Adaptability, Teamwork, Excellence, Commitment, Integrity and Respect. A judging panel then reviewed all nominations to determine the final recipient.
Derek, one of ATEC’s VET in School trainers, was selected for his outstanding contribution to training and mentoring the next generation of tradespeople. He has demonstrated an exceptional ability to support students with diverse learning needs, including those with ADHD and Autism, thoughtfully adapting his training approach to ensure every individual has the opportunity to succeed.
Beyond his technical expertise, Derek is a trusted mentor and role model, creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that has earned him the respect of his students and colleagues alike. His influence also extends to the development of new trainers, where he has generously shared his knowledge and practical experience to help build capability across the organisation.
Among his many achievements, Derek trained Angus Blanksby, who went on to win Gold in Carpentry at the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Championships. This accomplishment highlights the direct impact of high-quality training and mentorship in shaping future industry leaders.
ATEC congratulates Derek on this well-deserved recognition and thanks CBUS for their continued support in sponsoring the Trainer of the Year Award.
