Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations visits ATEC Lonsdale

ATEC was pleased to welcome The Hon. Amanda Rishworth MP, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, to our Lonsdale campus last Thursday for a firsthand look at the training and employment pathways we provide to apprentices and students across South Australia.

ATEC CEO Greg Bassani OAM and COO Rick Simunsen welcomed Minister Rishworth to the campus before Head of Building and Construction, Vito Russo, led a tour of ATEC’s training facilities.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the hands-on, industry-focused training delivered across ATEC’s core trade areas, including carpentry, electrical and engineering, as well as our Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) programs.

A highlight of the visit was meeting carpentry apprentice Bianca Bilsborow, who shared her apprenticeship journey with the Minister and demonstrated some of the practical skills she is developing through her training at ATEC.

Bianca’s journey is a great example of the opportunities available through an apprenticeship. Alongside her commitment to her apprenticeship and workplace, Bianca also represents Australia internationally in box lacrosse, demonstrating the dedication, discipline and determination she brings both on and off the job.

Minister Rishworth also had the opportunity to see training in action and speak with apprentices and ATEC staff, gaining an insight into how industry-connected vocational education is helping prepare the next generation of skilled workers.

As a Group Training Organisation and Registered Training Organisation, ATEC works closely with apprentices, host employers and industry to provide practical training and employment pathways that support the workforce needs of South Australia.

The visit also highlighted the important role vocational education and apprenticeships play in creating meaningful employment opportunities and building the skills our industries need now and into the future.
