Welding Certification

The Welding Certification courses are designed for experienced welders seeking to further develop their welding career. Australian Standard (AS1796) specifies the required theory and practical welding skills for certification. This will allow the applicant to be certified to weld high-quality applications on:

  • Plain carbon
  • Low alloy steel plate; and
  • Pipe sections

Note: There are two training components required to achieve a welding certification:

  1. Theory (MEM05026C – Apply welding principles); and
  2. Practical (Certification tickets 3, 3E, 4, 5, 7, 8F & 8G)

Note: each certification is a separate course and holds an individual cost.

Duration

Theory - 5 days/8 hours (Face to Face) 8:00am to 4:30pm each day

Practical - 5 days/8 hours (Face to Face) 8:00am to 4:30pm each day

For each certification ticket

Assessment

  • Theory Assessment
  • Practical Assessment

Entry Requirements

Participants MUST:

  • Have completed a Certificate III in Engineering (in Australia); or
  • Be an indentured tradeperson; or
  • If you do not have a Certificate III, you may qualify through prior experience. Prior experience includes a minimum of two years welding experience and at least 300 hours of training; or
  • Successful completion of the following

For MMAW Certifications (Cert No 3, 3E, 4 & 5)

Note: A meeting/assessment will be required to confirm eligibility before any training can be booked/confirmed

Course Fees

  • $1200.00 AUD (GST exempt) for the theory component; and
  • $1900.00 AUD (GST exempt) per practical unit

Courses must be paid for on booking unless alternative arrangements have been made. Training will not be confirmed until payment has been received

Additional Student Fees (individuals cost)

  • Pre-course assessment (if required) – Approx. $70.00 AUD

Learner Requirements

  • Provide your Unique Student Identifier (USI). Apply for a USI.
  • Provision of Australian legal photo identification for assessment purposes.

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

To be supplied by participant:

  • Safety Boots (steel cap)
  • Safety glasses
  • Appropriate workshop attire (non-flammable). i.e. work trousers and a Long-sleeved work shirt (for WHS reasons please do not wear excessively loose clothing)
  • Welding gloves and a welding helmet

Outcome

On successful completion of all requirements of this course, learners will be issued with:

  1. A Statement of Attainment for MEM05026C – Apply welding principles; and a
  2. A Certificate of completion for the completed Welders Certification practical component

Training components

Theory (MEM05026C- Apply welding principles)

  • Apply all statutory and regulatory requirements to welding procedures Validation of fabrication/welding procedures
  • Interpret all welding terms, codes and symbols
  • Determine the effects of heat treatment on metal in relation to welding
  • Plan the logical sequence of welding operations

Certificate No 4Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW) of welds using hydrogen controlled electrodes in alloy steel pipe.
Certificate No 5Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) root run and manual metal-arc welding (MMAW) of butt welds using hydrogen controlled electrodes in alloy steel pipe (single vee welded from one side only)
Certificate No 7Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
Certificate No 8FFlux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW) of plate and pipe.
Certificate No 8GGas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) of plate and pipe.
